Mason Hall Secondary School officially opened its doors as a secondary school in August, 2003. Prior to this official start date, we operated as dual school system in the form of Black Rock Centre and Bon Accord Centre. Like the eight (8) other secondary schools on the island, our students matriculate at our school after completing the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA). Our forms 1-3 students are taught using the Lower Secondary Curriculum designed by the Ministry of Education, Trinidad and Tobago, and our fourth and fifth form students are instructed using the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate curriculum under the regional examining body, Caribbean Examination Council. Although we are one of the few five year educational institutions on the island, rest assured that after spending 5 years at MHS, you are ably prepared to meet with the wonderful and exciting experiences waiting for you outside our walls.
While academics is at the forefront of our school, we are well aware that holistic child development is the ideal. As our vision and mission statements highlight, our main purpose is to help in the creation of well-development individuals through a multi-curricular approach. This means that we pay careful attention to curricular, extra curricular and character development. Some key areas of success we have achieved over the years have been in sports (football, netball, basketball and march past competitions), arts and culture, a thriving agricultural thrust, student advocacy and awareness of critical issues negatively impacting our world, namely environmental issues. We truly believe that if we send our students out with only academic attainment, we would be sending out ignorant students into the society.
